I really want to hear why you think Amelia wasn't real or whatever it sounds interesting
samstielsomg a million different reasons
For starters, there are way too many similarities between her and Sam for them to just be two random people who met by accident. They both lost someone recently and they’re both running away and they both just happen to be staying at the same motel?
Yeah ok, so she’s staying at the motel because she apparently works at the nearby animal clinic, but as someone who’s had questionable housing situations, not many places consider a motor inn a valid living address when you’re looking for employment. Sure, she probably could’ve gotten a job at a grocery store or a gas station, but as a veterinarian? Not likely. A vet gets paid on average $85k per year and a normal orientation in a new workplace is 2 weeks to a month. You think any sane employer is just gonna sign up a lady who rolled into town and is staying at a motor inn, and might decide to just drive out of town tomorrow? I mean come on.
Also, the dog he hit couldn’t have been a gray hound or a husky or idk, a german shepherd? It had to look like Bones? It’s like Sam pulled that dog out of memory and then just gave him different coloring. And he hit this dog with a 1967 fucking steel box traveling how fast? But this miracle vet lady saved the dog and it was hopping around like 24 hours later with a little cast on its leg?
Never mind the whole thing with the picnic and Amelia sitting on a blanket which is a mirror image of Dean’s fantasy of Lisa. Like every single part of that story seems like something Sam could’ve dreamed, including Amelia’s disapproving army father who Sam has to spend hours sucking up to.
And then, her husband just miraculously appears just as Dean has found a way to crawl back out of purgatory?
How about the fact that Sam was not actually connected to the world the entire time he was with her. Sam, who freaked the fuck out because he hit a dog, decided to just completely ignore dozens of phone calls from Kevin? Never even check his messages? Never contact any of the other hunters? Never crack a book to at least try and figure out if Dean was dead or alive? Never attempt to summon any demons or angels for questioning? This Sam? Pls.
Sam had a mental breakdown. There was no dog. There was no Amelia. It all happened in his head. That’s my story and I’m sticking to it.
I have a question about your theory about Amelia's existence. I really like the idea, as heart-breaking as it is. But how would you explain Den fake texting Sam to distract him? Or that whole conflict?
Well, correct me if I’m wrong because it’s been a while since I’ve watched it (I really hate a good chunk of that season) but we don’t actually know if there was a number for Amelia in Sam’s phone in the first place? It’s entirely possible that Dean put in the contact and the number and then texted it. If the contact didn’t exist, Dean would probably assume that Sam erased it (Dean would have done the same in his position, remember the whole: If you ever mention Lisa and Ben to me again, I will break your nose?) He probably thought Sam made a clean break, but if he received a message about Amelia being in danger, he probably wouldn’t even stop to think before he rushed to make sure she was ok (which is exactly what he did). The thing is, Dean never met Amelia, never spoke to Amelia, and in the end he knew nothing about her except that she apparently lived in Texas and that’s where Sam would be rushing off to if she texted him with some emergency. The only person whose recollection we have is Sam, and Sam at the beginning of Season 8 doesn’t strike me as the most reliable narrator.

My mom has a question about the Amelia theory. Where did Sam go when Dean had to go help Benny?
Well, he definitely went back to Kermit and stayed at the hotel, we know that because Dean goes there to meet him right? That’s where he tells Dean that whether Sam can trust him again depends on whether Dean is done with Benny or not. Interestingly enough, while Dean is there he doesn’t meet Amelia, they kind of bypass each other again, even tho Amelia knows Sam is there (the closing scene of Citizen Fang).
Now there’s a disconnect between these two episodes already, right? Cause here’s what happens at the end of 8.09:
Later, Sam is at a bar in Kermit, and he pulls out his phone to call the number Amelia’s text came from. When Dean answers, he’s not surprised. He asks Dean when he changed Amelia’s number in his phone, and Dean admits that he did it a while ago in case he needed to get Sam out of the way for a while. Sam asks him if the case is done, and Dean tells him that it is, but Martin died. Sam asks him if it was Benny, and when Dean tries to explain what happened, Sam hangs up on him. He stands up to leave the bar, and when he turns around, he sees Amelia walking towards him.
Then after Dean drives to Kermit in 8.10 and they have that conversation I mentioned above, this happens:
Meanwhile, Amelia has found Sam at his motel in Kermit, Texas. She asks him why he was outside her house, and he says that he thought she was in trouble. He still cares about her, and even though Amelia is content with her husband, Don, she still cares about Sam. They kiss and then share a night together, but the next morning Sam knows it was a mistake. Amelia agrees, but says that she can’t let go of Sam if he keeps showing up in her life. She wants him to make a decision: to stay in Kermit or to leave for good. She also has a difficult decision to make, to be with him or to stay with her husband, so in two days they’ll meet in the motel room if they both want to commit to each other.
Did they not talk when they saw each other in the bar at the end of 8.09? She didn’t ask him why he was there? It just makes no sense.
Now let me tell you what I think is really going on here. Sam created Amelia and his life with her as a safe space inside his own mind. A way to finally have a normal life, a girl, a dog, a house, the whole nine yards. An escape from the fact that his brother was gone, Castiel was gone, that there was nothing else left to hold on to.
When he’s back in Kermit having his one last night with Amelia, he is basically at crossroads in his own head. On one side is the messy reality. Dean is back and he needs Sam. Sam can go back to hunting life with Dean, or he can retreat back in his own mind where he’s created Amelia and his perfect life and just stay there.

i have a question about your theory: in a flashback, sam is talking to don about his and amelia's relationship and don says that he'll back off if it means amelia is happy and it's decided that both of them should respect amelia's choice when it comes to being with either of them. but sam makes the decision for her bc he leaves early in the morning soon after. why would sam imagine don coming back, and why would he leave, if amelia and that imaginary life were his safe space?
I’m sorry, I’m not really sure what you’re asking me?
Don and Dean are basically a mirror image. Sam created Don in his head as Amelia’s other half, the same way Dean is Sam’s other half. Both Don and Dean are missing, and both conveniently returned about the same time. It makes sense that the decision, in he end, wasn’t Amelia’s, because she doesn’t exist. The decision whether to return to the real world or not is Sam’s. Don gave him a choice because Sam had to leave a window of possibility for himself to return to the safe space he’d created. That’s actually quite common as far as I know for people who are highly imaginative and tend to retreat into the safe spaces in their own mind. Even when they return to the real world, in their own mind, there is usually a path, a way back. Like a safety net.
Why did he pick Dean over his imaginary perfect world? Because it’s Dean. Dean was the whole reason Sam created Amelia and his life with her, because Sam, at that point at least, was not capable of existing on his own. We’ve all watched Mystery Spot, that isn’t a headcanon. It’s not a big stretch to say that each time Sam’s lost Dean it’s hit him harder and harder until it resulted in the mental breakdown in s8.
Listen, Sam isn’t stupid. This is a kid who, according to most recent spoilers, had an imaginary friend growing up. I might be wrong, but that only confirms to me that Sam has a preset safety net in his own mind, an old map if you will, that’s helped him create this safe space with Amelia. Also, kids who have imaginary friends are creative, intelligent, and according to Journal of Experimental Child Psychology, better at solving complex problems, and can be more self aware than children without. If you ask me, Sam knows on some level that Amelia and his life in Kermit are not actually real. That they were just a replacement for Dean. He left because deep down inside, he always knew he couldn’t live the rest of his life in that imaginary space. He left himself an open door to return (Don’s willingness to give Amelia a choice and Sam’s knowledge that Amelia would pick him over Don because Sam is the one who created her - and when they meet again in 8.10 she does choose Sam) But once Dean was back, he didn’t need it any more.
I feel like I kind of wandered away from your question but I hope that at least some of that answers it :D
tazlesbian said *stumbles and falls into your askbox, spilling a glass or porn over your blog* Dean's old suit had ripped on the last hunt and so he had to get a new one. Normally not that interesting, but that one definitely is a problem. As they didn't have trousers in Dean's size they had to make them, especially for him. And well it's definitely not Sam's fault when he can't keep his eyes from Dean's ass now whenever he bends over. It also definitely not his fault when he ends up grabbing Dean and pulling him in the toilet of the crime scene, after they talked with the police there. It’s not his fault when he feels envy racing trough his veins after he realized the looks the police officer had given his brother. And it was definitely not his fault when he ended up fucking Dean’s mouth and then his ass, moaning so loudly that he knows the officer can hear them. But maybe his fault that the officer can’t stop blushing when Sam comes back out of th...
